Beginning Computer 1 -- Learning the Basics

Do you feel confused, frustrated and lost when it comes to computers? All of the techno-babble is eliminated and replaced with simple explanations and lots of pictures and hands-on learning in our computer lab. We’ll start with learning what to do with the mouse and keyboard and other basic skills necessary to navigate around the computer. You will also learn how to save, find and organize documents using files and folders.

You don't have to know everything about computers to become comfortable with them. The goal here is to learn enough to become at ease and not be overwhelmed. You’ll be given tips and tricks to save time and frustration. One of the most important lessons taught in this class is how to help yourself when you have a question or run into a roadblock while using your computer.

Beginning Computer II - WINDOWS XP: Working with Files & Folders
Instructor:Sue Lanza

Students work with the desktop including creating shortcuts. They explore the Folders Pane while learning how to manage folders and files. Students use Explorer to create, rename, copy, paste, move, and delete folders and files. The Recycle Bin is explained and files are moved to and restored from the Recycle Bin.

They'll work with Windows, the Internet and e-mail. Students learn how to search for data stored on the hard drive. They investigate the Control Panel while learning how to change wallpaper, add a screen saver, adjust the mouse, change the default printer, hide the taskbar, and customize the Start menu. Students will leave with a handy reference guide.

iPad - Moving Beyond the Basics (Limit 6!)

Get ready to use apps to get/stay organized! This

includes working with Notes and your calendar. We will be setting up and

managing your E-mail account. And we'll wrap it up by having fun with

iTunes!

You'll need to have a primary e-mail address and know how to access that account for the iPad class. If you have an iTunes account and/or an Apple account, please know your login information for both. If you don't have either set up, no worry!

Microsoft Excel 2010, Level 1: Introduction

Become a greater asset to your company by discovering the power of Excel. In this series of hands-on, instructor-led courses, you will learn how to take full advantage of Excel's capabilities by learning how to use a wide range of tools. In addition, you will discover techniques and shortcuts to help you access the power of Excel.

If an individual works with numbers, they need to know Excel. In "Introduction to Excel," students learn the skills needed to create, edit, format and print basic worksheets. Along the way, they use the Fill Handle and the AutoSum tool. They learn to insert columns and rows and add comments to cells. They polish the worksheet by formatting numbers, applying attributes (bold, italics), changing fonts, adding borders and adjusting column widths.

Microsoft Excel 2010, Level 2: Working with Multiple Workbooks

Prerequisites: Excel 2007, Level 1 or equivalent knowledge.

Expand on the skills learned in "Introduction to Excel (Level 1)." Learn to add, delete and rearrange worksheets within a workbook as well as how to add names and color to worksheet tabs. Also, learn to view more than one worksheet at a time and to move worksheets between workbooks. Then, harness the power of the Group command, work with lists and understand the importance of relative and absolute cell references. Next, link data between worksheets and workbooks and create 3-D references. In addition, refine printing techniques by setting and clearing Print Areas and adding headers and footers while working with Page Break Preview.

Microsoft Excel 2010, Level 3: Working with Frequently Used Functions

Prerequisites: Excel 2007, Levels 1 and 2 or equivalent knowledge.

Follow up on the "Introduction to Excel" and "Working with Multiple Workbooks" courses (Levels 1 and 2) by learning to utilize the most frequently used Excel functions – Sum, Average, Minimum, Maximum, Count, Count Numbers, and Count Blank. Then learn to use the PMT function to calculate loan payments and understand the importance of working with cell names. Also, learn how to sort data and use the Search and Find features and finish by working with advanced printing features.

Microsoft Excel 2010, Level 4: Working with Styles and Templates

Prerequisites: Excel 2007, Levels 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent knowledge.

Do you find yourself creating the same worksheet over and over? If so, it’s time for a template. Templates increase accuracy by reducing repetitive tasks. Students learn how to use templates to combine specialized formatting, standardize text and formulas in a special workbook upon which new workbooks are based while discovering how to use styles to stream line their work. They learn how to use the power of Excel Tables (new to Excel 2007) and the finer points of protecting worksheets and workbooks.

QuickBooks I - Setting Up a Company, Sales & Receipts, Purchases & Payments

An introduction to QuickBooks, students will learn company setup, organization of chart of accounts and file security for multiple users. Setup of customers, processing of credit and cash sales transactions, receipt of cash, processing of bank deposits and generation of statements and other receivables reports. In addition, setup of vendors, processing of purchases, processing of checks and generation of payables reports will be taught.

Prerequisites: Keyboarding skills, basic knowledge of Windows and use of the mouse.

QuickBooks II - Setting up Payroll, Financial Reports & Miscellaneous Transactions

Students will learn how to set up employees, track time and process payroll. Students will also learn how to set up inventory, pay sales tax, create estimates and use progress invoicing. In addition, you will learn how to customize forms, write QuickBooks letters and analyze financial data using reports and graphs.
