1.0Purpose:

To define appropriate actions and responses to proximity threats that may occur near the University campus

2.0Definition

Proximity threats are those threats that occur near the University and can cause damage to property at the University or injury/death to people on the University campus

Examples of proximity threats include, but are not limit to:

• Highway disasters
• Aircraft disasters
• Chemical plant disasters, and, or,
• Terrorists threats such as:
  • Biological weapons
  • Bomb scares/bombings
  • Chemical attacks
  • Cyber attacks
  • Nuclear weapons
  • Suspicious mail

3.0Responsibility

3.1

It is the responsibility of any person that sees or has knowledge of such a threat to contact the University Police as soon as possible.

3.2

University Police may call upon the University's Crisis Response team to assist in the assessment and response to the threat, as needed.

3.2.1

• University President
• University Police Chief
• Investigator University Police
• Director Operations University Police
• Vice President Administration/Student Affairs
• Dean Student Services
• Director Intramurals/Rec Complex
• Director Facilities/Planning
• Director Public Information and Communication
• Academic Computing Representative
• Building Coordinator (s)
• Environmental, Health, Safety Officer

4.0Response Actions

4.1

University Police will notify the appropriate local, state, federal authorities.

4.2

Working with local, state, federal personnel, University personnel will use applicable emergency response procedures as dictated by the type of incident.

4.3

Campus personnel will be kept informed of the incident and how they are to respond (shelter-in-place or evacuate) via the OneCall Emergency Notification System, e-mail, phone ring-down, or emergency speaker system.
